500GB external hard drive a good bet to store pictures?

Of course with my new digital camera I have taken waaay too many pictures and they are now taking up quite a bit of space on my laptop. Found a 500 GB external hard drive on sale. Is this a good way to go to keep all your pictures on? Are they as easy to use as advertised? Tks

RE: Granite Ridge Owners: What is this noise?

The sound you are probably hearing is the cooling fan on the rig's inverter/converter that is likely located under the bed. At least that is where mine is and I have heard it on occasion to cool down the unit. Correct....it's normal. Yup! AND make sure your family or guests do NOT put anything along side the bed on the floor in front of the grill on your converter that would block the air flow. Label inside will tell you it can cause a fire if blocked......and trust me it can and will. Don't ask me how I know!:W

RE: Generator exhaust fumes

The exhaust pipe for most MH gens barely extends past the walls of the MH. The exhaust either runs up the wall and seeps into the windows or it creeps under your coach. IMHO neither of which "I" wanted coming into or under my MH for plain ole safety reasons. Several parks up north make them mandatory to camp there. The Genturi sends it up and over the MH. If having to close my one vent mid ship to save carbon monoxide from coming into my MH so be it. The Genturi also comes with an adapter that you can run the gen pipe left or right in case your air cond unit is in line with your gen pipe. For those that want to make their own keep in mind that the Genturi has a vented opening right at the pipe to eliminate any back pressure to your gen. AND the pipe never gets hot and is 'rated' to be an exhaust pipe. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v664/RVn05/EXHAUSTenlarge-1.jpg

RE: Boston Market store packaged meal report

I've found the store-bought Boston Market meals taste nothing like what you can get in the restaurant. Tried it once...that was enough. Boston Market restaurants use TONS of MSG in their food that they serve in their restaurants. That's why many people like it. I ate their once and had a horrific reaction from the extreme amount of msg in just their chicken breast dinner.:R They could not possibly use that much in their package food because they would 'have' to list that it contained msg how much sodium it produces on the label for all to see. And buyers would never purchase it. :W

RE: Generator exhaust fumes

Camping World makes a kit to take the exhaust above the roof. It's called a Gen-turi. If you seach the forums you will find alot of info. Very popular at races when MH are parted really close together. We bought one and will be using it for the first time at Thanksgiving. No hookups and running the Genni alot. Here is a picture of it on our "C" before we traded http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v366/bergerl/DSC01884.jpg height=400 width=400 YUP, YUP, and YUP!! I've got one too. You will be amazed after using this just how much exhaust comes into your MH without it. This eliminates all of it. I thought my headaches when sitting on the couch(same side as gen exhaust) where from the cost of fuel well the headaches stopped when I started using the Gen-Turi.:B Now if only EVERYONE would buy them. I just spent 5 days dry camping at a sporting event parked next to a honking Class A that just laid down a flexible tube off his gen....pointed at my coach.:R:R

RE: See if this will bring back some memories....

Great link thanks for sharing it! Dad and I faithfully would retire to the den everyweek to watch those, brings back good memories. If you all want a real good trip back in time plan a trip and go the museum in Branson. They moved it horses and all from California to Branson. I have to tell you when I was in Branson I went to the Roy Rodgers museum. Boy talk about emotional. I was shocked at all the stuff in there that I remembered when I was kid watching them with my Dad. Trigger, Trigger Jr. Buttermilk are all there! Nowadays I can't remember where I left my keys, but when I rounded the corner in the museum and their sat Nellie Bell and Bullet. Whew what a mind trip that I could 'remember' their names!!:B:B

RE: Buying real estate at Auction? Good thing or bad?

Boy thanks a lot for your input. Of course the people I am staying at down here are all giving me the advice to go ahead. Thanks for clearing up a lot of the problems I might run into. I was worried about schills from the lender being at the auction and I thought I read somewhere too that the lenders where buying them back? That part I surely don't understand.I thought they don't want the houses back. I did dig around and found out the lender was Citi which on the news this morning, they are in big financial trouble and where going to write off some ridiculous figure in mortgages. So I thought I could steal this one. Of course all the utilities are off so I can't check any of that. I figured worst case scenario on that would be about $5,000 each for well and septic if they were shot. Going to go to the open house today and see if it still catches my need to buy and armed with the info you all provided me hopefully it will quell my need.:B Thanks again. The auction is Hudson and Marshall.

RE: Pardoning the Thanksgiving Turkety oops!

I disagree. She knew exactly what was going on behind her. This is not her first rodeo, or visit to a slaughterhouse. It was an "in your face" moment, targeted to the elites and the clueless. I was upset msnbc blurred out the good parts in the background! And just how would showing 'that' further her career and/or prove some point? :H

Pardoning the Thanksgiving Turkety oops!

Caribo Barbie strikes again. Anyone watch the interview with Palin where she pardoned the Alaska Thanksgiving turkey only to continue her interview on national TV right in front of the production line of where they where actually processing the live birds for food? :S

I'm in Florida and having record cold temps.:R But.......I know I won't ever have to wake up 'here' to four feet of snow 35 mile an hour winds and below zero temps like in Wisconsin where the new owner of my home I sold, will.:B

I'm still VERY thankful that my house sold in spite of this horrible market AND..........that I am in Florida in my MH for my first winter away from the dreaded snows and cold of the Midwest.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v664/RVn05/SUNgoodsiggif.gif

I wonder just how 'many' of us on the forum are waiting for our house to sell to go full-time? Buying real estate at Auction? Good thing or bad?

Anyone have any experience in bidding on homes at auction? I'm down in Florida and took a couple of days to look at Real Estate and ran across a killer piece of property that is going to be auctioned off. I've decided to throw some of my money into real estate. Yea yea I know it's a down market but I'm still thinking that in 4-6 years it will go back up and I will be able to make more money investing in dirt than what the banks are offering in interest AND even if my bank will still be in business.:B Anything I should be looking for with these auction houses? They are asking for $5,000 buyers premium to them just to bid on the house.

RE: Dry itchy skin?

My nephew dog, a Welsh terrier, is having difficulty with extreme itchy, dry skin. I would appreciate any ideas. Is this common with Welsh terriers? What brand dog food is your nephew feeding the dog? I have had great sucess with allergies and dry skin problems by using premium dog food.It is amazing to watch the transformation of a poor pup who is itchy and sparse hair to having a beautiful coat and itchy free. Also taking inventory of just 'what' type of cleaning chemicals are used on tile floors and carpet is a must. That darn stuff called 'Carpet Fresh' that many owners put on their carpet to make it -smell nice-:R is a number one allergen to pets.

RE: Booties to wear when dumping

I am finding less than clean dumping stations. Having to walk around the MH and thru wet areas of what ever, my DW has a fit when I come back in the MH. Lately, she has me spray my shoes with Lysol before getting in the MH. But then we have that smell in the cab as we travel. I once tried using Lysol spray on my shoes sitting on the rear door step. It set off the smoke detector or CO alarm. So I did some investigating and found these disposable booties that aren't too expensive. http://www.shoecovers.net/ So I am going to purchase some and see how they work out. It would be nice to be able to remove these waterproof booties and not have to worry what I am bringing in the MH. We walk around barefoot in the MH sometimes. You sure got that right about some nasty dump sites. I've actually thrown out a couple of pairs of shoes after having to walk thru some squishy areas to get to the area to place my sewer hose! My Real Estate agent had these same ones at the front door of my home that was for sale. Potential buyers used them faithfully. Great link and great idea for those nasty dump sites, thanks for the sharing the info.:C

RE: Coachman sold to Forest River

interesting. I thought something was up when 2 of the RV dealerships in my area got rid of all their coachmen units. I thought it was just the economy and they were downsizing to try and stay in business. They must have had inside info that this buyout was in the works.

RE: What do you think... and Why?

I just completed my trip down to the south. The last time I did this was 4 years ago, and the CG's were almost all filled with vacationers or full timers. What I saw this year was that the CG's are filled "over half" with people that are 'living' in their RV's....not full timing as they all get in their 'cars' and go to work every morning and like an earlier post stated I saw them brought in and dropped because they didn't have a tow vehicle. I talked with a few of them and some lost their homes and some found living in the RV was cheaper than renting due to the increase in utilities. If this is an indicator of what is happening with the economy I think that it will be harder to get reservations for the 'traveling RV'er' as more and more people loose their homes or come into hard times. All the CG's I stayed at were 3/4 full with people living there and all they left was one row of pull thru's for the travelers.
